Why does BTST value confidence and resilience??

One of the main goals of our organization is to help children, youth, and adults to develop resilience and confidence through sports. Why? You might ask. Let’s figure out the importance of these skills!

Resilience

First off, what is resilience? It is the ability to bounce back from challenges and stressors after facing them.

Does it mean that resilient people don’t experience stress or difficulties? A big no! Resilience provides people with the strength to confront their challenges, overcome, and learn from them. Not to mention, resilience also influences your response to the common stressors in life.

Feed two birds with one scone

Life has lots of ups and downs, so it is crucial to develop this skill as it could take most of the pressure and tension off of you and allow you to face the adversities and crises while increasing your productivity. As time goes by, you would develop problem-solving skills and would learn many different ways from which you can resolve the issues you are facing, using your knowledge from past experiences.

Boost your mental and physical health

According to Bonanno (2004), resilience could increase the chances of one surviving damaging situations while decreasing the possibility of developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Resilient people have can look at the negative situations realistically (Cherry, 2021), focus on their strengths, and approach the challenges with optimism and positivity. This process itself, improves their self-esteem, self-confidence, mental health, and happiness.

Confidence

Now that we are all well aware of the importance of resilience, let’s move on to confidence! Confidence is all about believing in your strengths and ability to succeed, and knowing that you can overcome obstacles.

It all begins in your mind

Just like resilience, although some people might have higher confidence, we all have the ability to develop and improve our confidence skills through using effective tools and strategies. The level of your confidence depends on your mindset and thoughts, which drive your actions. So, failing a math test or not being able to win a wrestling match doesn’t define you nor your success; but it’s your mindset and whether you still believe that you can succeed that defines you (Warrell, 2015). And that right there, that’s called being confident

Accomplish BIG goals

Confidence can also motivate people to achieve their goals by helping them focus on their abilities and strengths instead of setbacks and success barriers. Not to mention, since they are aware of their accomplishments, they never settle for less and have a life plan. Also, they don't hesitate to make sacrifices and work hard for their goals because they know that in the end, it’s all worth it.

Live without stress and fears

Being a student means having a lot of pressure, stress, and fears. What would you say if I told you I can help you get rid of them? Well, guess what? As I mentioned earlier, having confidence allows you to believe in your strengths. Knowing your strengths and believing in them could reduce your stress. Moreover, realizing that you are capable of overcoming challenges that you once found impossible would tempt you to face your fears and overcome them as well!

Conclusion

Now that you know all about the benefits of these incredibly important skills, make sure to come back later to read about their effects on wrestling matches as well as some tools and strategies that you could use to improve them.
